As Far as the Eye Can See
Gallions Mount Primary School sits high on a hill in Greenwich overlooking a vast view down to the Thames and beyond.
Artist Randy Klein worked with all the pupils at the school, using this view as the inspiration for hundreds of drawings. Each child in the school was given a sketchbook to work in. The view was divided into sections, with children working on different areas.
The drawings were collaged together into one enormous panorama of the view. This was translated into a computer file which was used to laser cut into an enormous stainless steel sculpture, permanently installed in the school grounds.
The project was initiated by Creative Partnerships London South, and was financially assisted by the Arts Council and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
"This project has allowed me to share my own love of drawing with all the children in the school. It has given me a wonderful insight into the way children see their environment. I am thrilled to have been able to fashion the pupils' own creative work into a lasting sculpture for the school community to enjoy for many years to come".

Pupils and staff of Gallions Mount School benefited greatly from the experience of working with an artist, and from taking a fresh look at the unique view from their school high on a hill. The finished sculpture is a permanent legacy for future pupils and parents to enjoy, and is a permanent reminder to take the time to appreciate that view.
